Obviously every fisherman has his own favourites and some more secretive aboutn them than others. As visitors often want simple leisure fishing the following are a few popular spots.

• Hopes Nose: (Just around the coast from Babbacombe. Take the Ilsham Marine Drive Road and walk down to the promontory reaching out into the sea. Steep hill, 10 minute walk down). All sorts of fish, but very popular for daytime mackerel, early morning bass and late night bigger fish!
• Meadfoot Beach: (Next beach around). Rocky in general, but can be fished from the wall on spring tides. Evening and early morning best as the beach can be popular on good days.
• Torquay Harbour: This has a lot of boat traffic and inner harbour fishing is frowned upon, even though there are some good mullet and school bass left on a falling tide.
• Princess Pier. This is the Torquay Pier and is popular in the summer with anglers for mackerel.
• Gasworks Beach: At Preston, Paignton is fairly sandy and OK for quiet beach fishing
• Paignton and Preston Beach: These are popular beaches, very safe for swimming and quite busy. As with many sandy beaches, there are schoolies and some flatfish, mullet and mackerel. Paignto ier breaks the beach up.
• Paignton Harbour: Easy and relaxing. Fished over the back wall to Fairy cove at high tide can see some rock dwelling fish caught.
• Goodrington: This has a long sandy beach, but has good promenade for summer fishing and evenings will see a lot of mackerel fishers.
• Broadsands and Elberry Cove: The former is wide and sandy the latter is very pebbly, but has speed boat lanes.
• Brixham Breakwater: Out toward Berry head, this is on a par with Hopes Nose and sees a great variety of species and deeper water.
• There are many places in between these marks but access is often hidden or not public. Roundham Head, Brixham Quarries are two examples.
• BOATS: Boats can be hired from Paignton Harbour and other harbours around the bay.
